Spring Blanket - Done!

Spring Blanket finished 48 inches x 50 inches-3

Finally! It's done! As much as I loved this idea of 10-stitch blanket, after 20+ balls of knitting with unloved yarn, it was getting on my nerves. I knit on it intermittently mostly late night, watching TV. The bag which held the Patons SWS balls seemed like it would bring forth never ending supply, until one day in frustration I checked and there were only 5 balls left. That's when I got a new booster and within a week the blanky was done. Thank God!

Spring Blanket finished 48 inches x 50 inches-122 x 127cm

There's nothing really wrong with the yarn, except that I don't like knitting with it. I don't want it near my skin, but as blanket it's quite soft and warm. Too bad it's not machine washable. The blanket is also heavy, that might be a good thing, so it stays put better, I think.

Spring Blanket finished 48 inches x 50 inches-back side
This is how it looks on the back side.

pattern: 10-stitch blanket by Frankie Brown (only as free ravelry download)

yarn: Patons SWS, color: natural pink, 20.5 balls (threw away last half ball with satisfaction, with evil grin on my face, as I heard it scream on its way into the garbage bin)

needle: 5mm DP

size: 48 inches x 50 inches (122cm x 127cm)

start-finish: August 22, 2008 - April 16, 2009

Babette beginning April 17-3

The best part about finishing it was, that I already had my next blanket waiting in line. It's the Babette crochet blanket. I'm officially a Babetteier now. Of course looking at all the color changes with all those ends, I opted for the lazy version, and that means I'm going to use Noro Kureyon in several colorways. We'll see how long this blanket will take me, since I like to work with this yarn I expect it to go faster. Last night though, as I encountered the umptiest thick, unspun stretch in the yarn, after a few knots too, I seriously thought why I would buy this yarn. Oh yeah right, it's the colores!

This yarn is a bit frustrating, because after every thick part, there always comes a thread thin part and you just can't start cutting those parts out, because there would not be much yarn left of each ball. This will be my second Noro Kureyon blanket, unfortunately another handwash blanket.

Wirklich ein Lieblingsstück...

And Noro is one thing that I still wanna buy to knit with. I found some web sites that ships to Brazil. Thank God!!!! hahaha

Your spring blanket is beautiful, but there is NO way I'd wash that by hand. Hope you have a good handwash or delicate cycle on your washing machine ;)

I think I'm the last person on earth who hasn't knit with Noro....one of these days :)

Your Spring blanket ooks beautiful no matter how boogelly it was to knit. What a clever way to make Babette!! Suddenly it seems much nicer without all those ends!!!

I love the Spring Blanket even though it was a pain to knit. It looks great. But, I'm really loving your Kureyon Babette. Terrific idea. Also love the mitered Kureyon. In fact, I don't think I've ever seen a blanket of yours that I didn't love!

wow! i love the idea of knitting a whole blanket, but the size of the project is what scares me away. i've got one started, but it's a scraps blanket so it's slow going...

just beautiful, monika!!

Lovely work on the blanket!

With a little wool wash, cool water and the gentle/delicates cycle on the washing - machine you should be good to go.

You must feel so great having the 10 stitch blanket done! Congrats! The Babette looks very nice so far and I like the idea of Noro for a "lazy" version. I've been wanting to make this for myself for a while so I hope you don't tempt me into buying the yarn yet!

Beautiful blanket. You have more nerve than me. I returned all the SWS except for the ball I had started knitting. I love the colors, but hated the yarn.

The 10-Stitch Blanket is gorgeous! I don't think I've seen one yet that didn't impress me. Can't wait to watch Babette grow.

I went back through April 08 posts to find the instructions for the ridge detail you added - but I cannot find the correct post for some reason. Can you send me a link?

The Spring Blankie is Beautiful! and now you don't ever have to knit with that yarn again ;^)
I know well what you speak of about the Kureyon, thick and thin spots, but yes, those colours!

Deine Decke ist wunderschön. Mir gefällt allerdings die Rückseite besser als die Vorderseite.

I've knit several bags with the SWS. It's finnicky, that's for sure. I don't mind it terribly, but certain spots no matter how careful I was it still pulled apart.

The spring blanket is very pretty and I might attempt the pattern myself, but not with SWS. I'm glad to see you persevered and got it done.

The blanket looks very nice! But I do like the crocheted Noro blocks even more. I love the colors of Noro very much.

Do you think it would work with 20 stitches? It feels like too much turning with 10.

I'm sorry it caused you so much angst, but that Spring Blanket is STUNNING!!

Hi Monika, looks like this post is about two and a half years after the last comment left on
this blanket. I am busy with a ten stitch blanket at present - also working while I watch TV. The amazing thing is that I am doing it in yarn that looks almost identical to the yarn that you used.Great minds think alike! Now I can see what the finished product will look like although mine id already about 24 ins square.
