Well, I'm done! After knitting the cardigan I did not expect to knit cables so soon again. I still don't like knitting cables. At least I think I've figured out WHY that is the case: They are disruptive! You never get into the flow of knitting, as with all other kinds of knitting (except nubbs with lace, they are the "cables" of lace knitting).
I've used this new toe up heel with gusset by Maia. It's a very good fit. But I've got to work on it, since there are some holes. I was lucky to have the same foot length as her, so the tutorial was easy for me. Just used basically her numbers. No math for me.
I've used Judy's magic cast on, really the only way I'm knitting toe ups for the past year, and in the future. It seems people are just finding out about it, and how great it really is.
The yarn feels better than I'd expect for it being such a cheap yarn (3 Euro a ball). But I like this kind of blend for socks, since it holds up wear and tear better than 100% merino ever would. I should have used 2mm needles, and it would still have been big enough. As it is, they are a bit loose. I'm glad I'm done with cables. Giggle! I'll never say "for a long time" again! ;o)
A close up of the leg part and the cuff. Because of the cables the leg part is about an inch shorter than it would be without cables, I just couldn't take it any more. Knitting the cuff was just so relaxing after all those cables (without a cable needle of course). I used the lace bind off, so I don't have to deal with the sewn bind off. Both are stretchy and good ways to do this.
So here are some more specifics for you:
yarn: nova Exclusive, 65g of the 100g ball, 75% superwash wool, 25% polyamide, color: grey-blue "uni" melange
needles: 5 DP, 2.25mm bamboo
size: my feet are 10 1/4 inches long
pattern: Anni Design for the Sockamania Club KAL - July - Serpentine Socks
start to finish: July 2-4

Two days! Socks take me at least a week, usually more. How ever do you do it? Really cute socks, too!
Glad to read that you got some rain. Wish we would. Nothing in the forecast though. Fire season is really going to tough this year.
And as for finishing my shawl in this heat, well let's just say a/c in really nice.
I love those socks ... almost makes me wish I was in Sockamania. Cables are slow, yes, especially in sock weight, but they look fantastic.
TWO DAYS FOR SOCKS??? You are a machine! They look wonderful too! I'm with you on both the yarn blend and cables. I've been hording some Regia and Opal in stash because it just wears so well. I used to be all about cabling but it's such a pain with a baby around because I can't devote all of my attention to the knitting so I've set it aside for a bit.
Fein!
Great socks! And now mini socks mass production?!! (@@)
Beautiful socks! Cable on socks are always wonderful. I'm so glad the heel flap worked for you. :-)
Very pretty pattern. You certainly are a fast knitter, cables and all :)
I've been working on a pair of socks...hopefully I'll finish them over vacation...that is if there is room in the car for them. I'm still learning...and struggling...
I'll echo everyone else: TWO DAYS?! Holy moly, batman. Thst's insanely fast knitting.
I really like the socks. That color is just perfect for that pattern.
beautiful socks!
i am glad that you have taken up dpn s again.
ciao...
Beautiful socks! The cables show up so nicely in that yarn. Well worth the trouble, I think! Enjoy.
wow- these are beautiful! And you knitted them so quickly :-)
The socks are beautiful. I to am amazed at how fast you were able to knit them.
That is the prettiest color of yarn I've seen in a while. I just ordered a shirt that will be almost the same color.
Oh, and thank you so much for the little pink blogger girl award. That was very nice!
Those socks are gorgeous! I can't believe you knit those in only 2 days!
Huhu, Monika,
die sehen einfach nur großartig aus!!
Gerade mit der schlichten Wolle kommt das Muster super zur Geltung!
Deine Fotos von Deinen Hunden sind auch mal wieder hinreißend :-)))
Viele liebe Grüße
Tanja
The socks look great! Two days? TWO? Good gravy.
Aw, Biko's freckled nose! she's so cute.
I have to join the chorus of wonderment at your speed. I've done a pair of plain vanilla socks in a weekend before, but never something like yours.
One of the socks I'm working on right now is the Bayerische sock--which I love and can't wait to finish, but it's going to take forever. All those twisted and crossed stitches. I enjoy doing it--I like big cables, too--but it does take some concentration. That's why I switched back to the circular baby jacket, to take a little break.
What a beautiful stitch pattern for that heathered yarn - Pretty socks!!
