This is a fibre post!

Ladies and Gentlemen! This is my Star amongst my hand spun yarn! It's spindle spun and wheel plied 141yds!!! Remember the green and the read mixed with blue samples? I 2-plied them with the wheel directly from the spindles and it worked very well. I couldn't believe how long it took, which told me right there, that it must be more than the usual ~ 50 yds I made so far. Imagine my surprise when I got 141yds of it. The same amount of fiber as the others, just spun a lot thinner.

So here's the next one. Not a Star but very satisfying as well. It's wheel spun and plied. There was less overtwist in the singles and it plied together beautifully. Although there's some overtwist in the plied yarn, it's much more even. But only 49 yds. I've learned as usual, and that's the point. This concludes my sample stash. No more of it. Now I will work with bigger amounts of fibre, starting with 4 oz of Spunky Eclectic custom dyed Corriedale roving.

I'm building up my very own handspun yarn stash. Would love to cast on for something, but am busy with practicing spinning, and you know what I have on my needles now. So it has to wait.

Of course there has been some fiber enhancement as well. I've joined Spunky Eclectic's Fiber Club. This is the May 2007 fiber, called "Nightshade", 4 oz of coopworth sliver. Right now I'm admiring it. I like her colors very much. I'm so looking forward to the coming months and what she's coming up with. I saw some spun yarn from her Fiber Club on another blog, can't remember where, but it was such a nice color, very strawberry, and I'm sorry to have missed that one.

So, off I go, knitting squares, and spinning some more.
On another note, Sam gave me a fright last night. He did too much running around and in the evening he was limping real bad. I was nearly hysterical when I saw that. So, until he stops limping, there will be only walks on the leash for him. He's not amused, but that can't be helped. At least he's using his leg, that's a good sign. Oh, boy, but he was having so much fun!
Debbie: What brought on the urge to go golfing? Did you? ;o)
Robin: Hallo Robin! Thanks for your visit!

I so need a spinning wheel!!! I love those plied yarns! What are you going to knit? A 141 yards could spin a hat at 3-4 stitches to an inch. Maybe some wrist warmers?

Sorry to hear about your Sam. I know what it's like to have a baby of yours injured..even if they're furry. My cat once had an injury to his leg that was mostly seen among athletes. My cat is 18 pounds and refuses to move accept from one lap to the other.

Unglaublich, Monika,

das sind sooo tolle Farben! Wie Du das so schnell hinkriegst!

Also der oberste Strang ist ein echter Traum, aber auch die anderen würde ich sofort nehmen ;-)

Liebe Grüße
Tanja

Love your handspun! Great colors. I always love to see how yarns turn out when plied. It's like a happy surprise. I'm going to check out that fiber club.

I'm loving all of your wee handspun samples! I would never have thought to put that red and green/blue together, but it definitely works. Now to knit all of them up!

Your hand made stash looks great!

Angus used to chase the waves when we went to the beach in spite of his arthritis - and in spite of being sooo stiff the next day.

Monika,

I've been admiring your knitting for a while, and here's another blog where the author is a member of the Spunky Eclectic fiber club... http://www.snarkland.com/index.php/weblog/index/

Lots of pictures of her spinning and knitting there too! I love to admire, as I haven't ever figured it out myself -- lack of patience is my problem! :) Good luck!
