Dante's Purse

multicolored experiment bag-15 high-7

Ever since I saw Kirsten's first Dante's Purse I wanted to make one myself. I only got around to it now, but better late than never.

Dante's' Purse 1

pattern: Dante's Purse by Kirsten Kapur (free download)
fabric: outside: cosmo barnyard, purlsoho , lining: local fabricland
yarn: multicolored experiment, handspun from previous post
hook: for base H (5mm)
needles: 4.5mm circular
size: 15inches high, base is 7.25 inches in diameter
start-finish: April 1-2

Dante's Purse 2

The only modification to the purse I made was the crochet base. It was so much fun to see it develop, I almost couldn't stop myself. I wanted to use up all the yarn I had, so the bag is a good size. I've got only a couple of yards left in the end. I didn't use an I-cord as drawstring either, just twisted the already cabled yarn. It could have been a few inches longer, but it's working as it is.
The hardest part of this was to sew the stretchy knit bag together with the inflexible fabric bag. I did it with my sewing machine, but first I had to pin it together. I found a big enough round plastic container, where I could slip it on and pin everything in place. That was the least favorite part. Everything else was very fun to do.

It was easy to follow Kirsten's instructions, even though there was MATH ! involved. It was fun, you get to decide how big the bag is going to be. I'm sure this was not the last one I made.

There's nothing else to say about it, just to enjoy!

Is this the "multicolored experiment" yarn? What a wonderful project you found for it!

So glad you enjoyed the pattern (despite the math)! :)
Your bag looks great.

Monika,
the purse turned out really nice. I remember my mom making me a purse similar to that when I was in high school. It matched a dress she made me.
Of course that was just last year.....LOL!

I absolutely LOVE the purse. Good job! Isn't it great when you find something really appropriate to do with your handspun?

I'd say I'd make one for myself, but knowing there's math involved, well, let's just say it would be better if the math part snuck up on me.

Total schön! Ich mag die Farbe der wolle und der Stoff passt perfekt dazu. Erinnert mich an mein Handarbeitskörbchen aus der Grundschulzeit.
Deine Fotos sind auch wieder sehr gelungen.

It looks awesome. I have to get better about using my handspun, so far nothing is "good enough" which might end up being a problem if I keep spinning! LOL

Also, I just realized that I totally used to read your blog religiously when I first started knitting like 2 years ago but then I moved & my computer was damaged in the move so I lost your link.

How funny is that that I'm now reading you again?! :D

That's an incredible match of fabric to yarn! And the yarn is particularly pretty knit up this way. I love handspun in stockinette...let's the colour speak for itself. :)

This bag looks beautiful. It seems like a very nice project. I am still looking for a nice project for the yarn you gave me last year (I don't want to make socks of them because the yarn is too pretty). Maybe this is the one!

Beautiful! It shows off the colors from the yarn so well! I love the pictures!

Pretty - it must be very satisfying to take a project from spinning, though to multi carft completion.

All I can say is WOW. You dont do anything half way do you? Everything you do is just lovely! I love the fabrics you chose and the use of the handspun. WOW.

The yarn worked up really nice in this project. All the colors blend really well together.

Thanks for the encouragement. It has gotten easier sleeping with the CPAP every night and I'm already starting to feel better.

Did I say I love the yarn? I love the bag too. It's a great combination of three of your favorite crafts. Spinning, crochet and knitting. Nice.
