No meme needed to share something about me. I hate to go to the hairdresser. O.K. I shouldn't say "hate", it's a too strong a word, but I dislike it profoundly. The last time I went was two years ago. I have long, straight hair, which needs to be colored and occasionally cut. I did that myself, because I could not bare the thought of wasting two hours of my time, and a lot of money at the hairdresser's.
Well, today I went, made an appointment even for it last week. My needs are pretty much straight forward. Two employees, two customers. Should not take too long, right?
The goo was smeared on, I almost dozed off, would have, but the music was so annoying. Without my glasses on, I'm almost blind as a bat. Didn't want to sit with a magazine right in front of my nose, so I was contemplating my life. I got a little nervous, when the alarm went off, and nobody came to wash out the color. While I was waiting, there were other customers to be taken care off.
Anyway, finally I got a wash, and I told her how much she was allowed to take off. Layers in front? Don't touch that!
In the past, I once ran off with wet hair, because I could not take it anymore. After two years, I thought I should be more grown up and wait it out. I did NOT want her to style my hair, just blow dry it, for gods sake! I was tempted to grab the damn thing and do it myself, but hey, I'm almost 44, I can be patient. She burned my skin, and after I winced several times, and TOLD her it was too hot, she put me under that funny thing, where you go, when you got rollers in your hair.
At first it was fine, and immediately my eyes started to fall shut, almost dozed off again, until suddenly it got hot again, and after a second of panic, I finally figured out how to get that thing off my head. I got up, and declared, that I'm done (stick a fork in me).
I went to the counter, got my wallet out, the hairdresser came around and reached for the cover, still tangling from my neck (she was a head shorter than me, but I did not bend my knees). I paid and left. Time spent there - 1 hour and 53 minutes. See you in two years.
Relatives and friends! See what I go through for you? ;o)

Two years - LOL I should be so lucky. I go every 3-4 months and like you hate the entire experience. Except for one reason. I live in SoCal and go to a rather hip salon and the "interesting" people who come in are truly eye-popping. What these young girls will look like in ten years when all those tatoos begin to fade/sag I dread to think.
I could almost have written the same thing! Even going to hairdressers who are friends I get so bored and hate wasting the time sitting there. I too cannot see without my glasses past about 6 inches.
My last cut/color was 1 month ago, 9 months after the previous cut/color. Time wasted=2 hours.
Oh no! That sounds horrible! I hate finding new hair dressers but I love going when I like the person. I'm one of those people that likes to play with different styles. But I don't do wax anymore. I got burned before my wedding and have a splotch on my face in most of the wedding photos.
Oh Monika, I am so with you here! I often lament why can't I be like other women and enjoy getting my hair done, but I hate it, I hate every second of it. I don't like strangers touching me, I don't like the smalltalk, I don't like the loud music playing in order to convince us that the hairdressers are hip and contemporary. I don't like the attitude that so many hairdressers have, that they are brilliant artists and you are just an idiot sitting there with ugly hair.
I need to go someplace and get my hair cut and styled for my sister's wedding. The only stylist I like is in NJ...my friend took me to hers and I love this woman...down to earth, fun and talented. :) But NJ is 9 hours away!
I'm not keen on it either. I also don't care for the dentist, or the eye doctor. I realized a while ago it's because it's too much fake interaction with an almost stranger, too much focus on myself. I actually like the feel of having someone else wash/dry/brush my hair (when they are good), but don't expect me to talk, LOL.
Yes! I think there should be a gift card that says "I got my hair styled, wore hose, high heels, etc" for your gift. You're welcome!"
This almost sounds like a visit to the dentist. My hair is so darn staight, thin and boring, that there is not much I can do with it, but hubby really wants it long, so I'm trying my best. I go when it starts splitting, just to cut the dead ends off, but that is it. They always want to make you look like a glamour girl and the minute you walk out into the humitidy it's done with it and all was for nothing. So what's the point. Just cut it and let me be.
I like going to the hairdresser. If I won Tattslotto I would go every week. My hairdresser is fantastic and he always does the exact right thing. I have these foily coloured things once a year in the top of my hair. Not too bad at all.I hope you have recovered now!!!
*lol*
I am not a big fan of going to the hairdresser too ;) It's almost a years since I was there last... And I need to go and get my hair cut, because t gets so tangled back in the neck when it gets to long. But I am not looking forward to it.
I JUST had 12" of hair cut off for Locks of Love! Dave thinks he has a new wife!
(My experience was definitely more fun than yours!!)
Have a great trip...
I am so glad to hear that others hate the salon experience as much as I do. I thought it was just me. My daughter is learning to cut hair, so I told her once she learns, that's it for me - she has to cut mine and I will never go back. Monika, have you ever found someone who does it at home? It is so much better, if it is someone you like.

To see what I went through last time I went to a salon, see my Sep. 24 entry to my blog. It was a nightmare. So I can sympathize with you.
I stretch out my hairdresser appointments too. My boys (including my husband)no longer go to get their hair cut. My oldest has a pair of hairclippers and gives everyone buzz cuts. I wish I would look good with a buzz cut, but I don't think the world is ready for that ;)
How brave of you to sit the whole thing out.. This is a fun story to read!!
I hate getting my hair done too. Luckily I don't color it but I hate them blowdrying it out.
And OH NO! I can't believe you frogged that cute blanket! But it did make an adorable shawl. Frogging is actually pretty easy, once you've set your mind to it.
I'm trying to remember the last time I went to a hairdresser. It think it's been over 4 years.
I dislike the hairdresser because I end up getting talked into some kind of high maintenace hairstyle whenever I go. I don't like to spend much time playing with my hair. I usually just wash it and go. Of course because of my attitude I would never win any awards for best hairdo ;).
